First 30 TTX Frequently Asked Questions

We already have enlarged maps of facilities of concern. Do you offer kits without maps?
Yes. We offer kits without maps for agencies and organizations that prefer to train using their own existing maps of schools, retail locations, special events, critical infrastructure, or other sites of concern. This option provides the flexibility to conduct exercises using locations that are most relevant to your organization while leveraging your current planning resources.
For the best training experience, maps should be enlarged to accommodate the kit’s 1.5-inch diameter exercise chips. As a general guideline, individual rooms or key operational areas on the map should be at least 1.5 inches in size so that a single chip can be placed within the space without obscuring urrounding details. This ensures the map remains easy to read and supports realistic resource tracking during the exercise.
Why do your kits include so many different types of chips?
First 30 TTX features one of the largest and most diverse collections of table top exercise chips available, with more than 100 different personnel, equipment, threat, and resource types represented across the product line. Our chips go far beyond patrol officers and firefighters, incorporating assets such as SWAT, detectives, K-9, negotiators, EOD, HAZMAT, crime scene units, coroners, security personnel, mutual aid resources, various school staff, a large variety of threats and challenges, and many others. This variety reflects the complexity of real-world incidents and challenges participants to make realistic command decisions about resource allocation, priorities, and competing operational demands.
Are the kits scalable?
Yes. First 30 TTX kits are designed to support exercises of virtually any size. They can be used for a quick roll call tabletop with a handful of participants or expanded into large, multidisciplinary exercises involving law enforcement, fire/EMS, schools, emergency management, hospitals, and private-sector partners.
Is it difficult to facilitate a tabletop exercise?
No. First 30 TTX kits are designed to make tabletop exercises easy to plan and facilitate, even for organizations with limited exercise design experience. Each kit includes a facilitator guide with exercise planning tips, suggested objectives, and facilitation guidance to help you conduct a meaningful and engaging session.
How are First 30 TTX kits different from traditional tabletop exercises?
Traditional tabletop exercises often rely solely on PowerPoint slides. First 30 TTX kits provide a hands-on, interactive training environment that uses maps, resource chips, and scenario injects cards to immerse participants in the decision-making process. The visual and tactile format encourages collaboration, resource management, and problem solving while creating a more realistic and engaging exercise experience.
Does First 30 Group offer Train-the-Trainer courses?
Yes. We offer Train-the-Trainer programs for organizations seeking advanced instruction in mass attack response management and tabletop exercise facilitation. These courses are designed to help participants confidently develop, lead, and sustain their own exercise programs. Contact us for additional information.
